Namibia is colder at sunrise and hotter at noon than most people pack for. The packing list that works is layered, dust-aware, low-volume, and includes the small things — chargers, plug adapters, dust covers — that hotels at home would have provided.

Clothing essentials
Light layers in neutral colours. A fleece for sunrise. A wind/rain shell. T-shirts and a long-sleeve shirt for sun protection.
Long trousers for game drives and dusty roads. A pair of comfortable shoes for walking, sandals for the lodge.
Swimsuit — most lodges have a pool. A warm hat for May–August.
- Fleece + warm hat (May–August mornings can be near freezing)
- Long-sleeve shirt + long trousers for dust and sun
- Closed walking shoes — not hiking boots, just comfortable shoes
- One nicer outfit for the lodge dinner

Electronics and charging
Type D and Type M plug adapters (the South African three-pin) work in most lodges. Some newer lodges add Type C/F (European). Bring both.
Power bank for the car days. Most rentals have a USB outlet but it is slow.
Camera with spare batteries and SD cards. Most lodges have charging in the rooms but not all camps do.
Toiletries and health
High-SPF sunscreen, lip balm with SPF, aftersun, insect repellent (DEET-based for malaria zones).
Personal medications in original packaging, with extras.
Hand sanitiser, basic first-aid kit, wet wipes (more useful than you think).
Vehicle and dust
Soft bags pack better in the car than hard suitcases. Multiple smaller bags beat one giant one.
Dust covers (plastic bags) for cameras and electronics. Dust will get in.
Reusable water bottles. Refill at lodges. Pack at least 5 litres total in the car.
Documents and money
Passport, driver's licence (and IDP if your home licence is not in English/Latin script), credit and debit cards.
Printed copies of your booking confirmations and the rental's cross-border letter if relevant.
Some cash in N$ or ZAR for the first day.
Extras worth bringing
Binoculars — even cheap ones transform the wildlife viewing.
Head torch for camps without good outdoor lighting.
Snack supplies for the long driving days. The lodge breakfast does not always last until lunch.
A small dry bag for laundry or wet swim things.
Things people overpack
Hiking boots. A normal pair of walking shoes is enough for almost everything.
Formal clothes. Lodge dinners are smart-casual at most.
Multiple cameras. One main camera and your phone covers it.
Heavy jackets. A fleece + a wind shell is enough.
Final verdict
A good Namibia packing list is short, layered, dust-aware, and built for cold dawn and hot noon. We can help shape your route so the packing matches what you are actually doing — desert, coast, wildlife, or a mix.

We plan and review Namibia self-drive routes around season, region and travel style — so the packing list is short, not chaotic.
